Woodland Funeral Design
Inspiration
Most of the inspiration for my woodland design came from the image above. I wanted to create a spiral shape like the felt and leaves have done in this image. I found this image on line at https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/b5/90/d1/b590d135a73596cc65a38d9c44c42652.jpgSketches/Designs
For this design I decided that I wanted to make the spiral the main feature. I sketched two designs with spirals and one with out to see what the difference was. I also knew that I wanted to split the design in half and have one side different to another. I chose the design that I drew in the top left hand corner.
I decided to use cinnamon sticks to create the spirals. I cut the sticks in half to create different heights. This will help with define the depth with in the design. I then decided to use the bark and moss to create more texture.
Final Images
This is my final design. I used the cinnamon sticks to create the spiral and the bark and moss to cover the base.I feel that the choice of using cinnamon sticks as the spiral was not wise as they blend in to the moss, but it does stand out more were the craspedia and the Kermit's are. Maybe the use of lighter moss or colour lining the shape would have been better.
I used three large orchids for the main placement on the right to bring the green through the design. I also used Kermit's to create the same effect on the bark. However the right hand side of the design has not yellow. A few craspedia heads would have fitted in well with the Kermit.
I also included some vines to link the orchids to the end of the heart. These vines could have been included around the spiral to help make it stand out.
Evaluations
For this design I would change a few things such as the dark backgrounds I would have liked the moss and bark to be a little bit lighter. I would also highlight the spiral more as it was meant to be the focal point of the design. I would do this by adding more of an out line to the spiral or masking it thicker by using more cinnamon sticks or another material.I also didn't cover the base of the design which would have been and added extra to make sure the coffin didn't get scratched.
